Moooi Dear Ingo

Dear Ingo is a light of exceptional proportion, function and ambition. Designed by Ron Gilad for Dutch design company Moooi it is part light, part love letter and part art installation. The Ingo in its name refers to Ingo Maurer, certainly one of the most singular and talented lighting designers the world has ever seen. But Dear Ingo is not some fawning homage, it is an act of respect but also one of intent, a demonstration of how to walk the delicious line between the abstract and the functional. This is where Ron Gilad’s particular talents lie, the appropriation and mash up of recognisable objects to create new playful hybrids. The proof of his success, if proof were needed, is that Dear Ingo now forms part of the permanent collection of The Art Institute of Chicago and has been widely lauded as a modern classic. Made from powder coated steel the light consists of sixteen task lamps all of which can be positioned and directed individually. In either black or white the Dear Ingo is a pure example of how to add the extra to ordinary.
