kay bojesen monkey

Every once in a while something comes along that is so perfectly conceived and so beautifully realised that it defies period and is almost impossible to date. The smiling wooden monkey by Kay Bojesen is such an item. Originally designed in 1951 for his young son as a hat and scarf rack it soon became clear that this was more than just an ordinary monkey. Made from teak and contrast limba hardwoods his long limbs and curled hands and feet became an instant hit and have allowed him to hang in bedrooms across the world. With his turning head and wide smile it is fair to assume that the classic Bojesen Monkey will still be as popular in another half century as it is today.
