&Tradition topan VP6 pendant light

Sometimes the simplest things are the most lasting and memorable, the classic Topan VP6 Pendant light, a true celebration of colour, being a brilliant example. Designed in 1959 by Verner Panton, it was his first mass produced lamp, later to be followed by the FlowerPot whose design antecedents can be clearly seen. Topan’s purity of form has proven to be the secret of its lasting success, there is nothing flashy about Topan, which is not surprising considering it was originally designed for the Astoria hotel and restaurant in Trondheim, Norway. Norwegians are not known for their flashiness. Here, Panton used his textile designs Geometry I to IV for floors, walls and ceilings in order to give a considered uniformity and then hung Topan pendants all over the place, dividing large rooms into smaller and more intimate spaces. Still made to the original specification from drawn aluminium the Topan comes in one size, many colors and with its simply huge reputation preceding it.
