Bellevue AJ7 Floor Lamp

Price From: £610.00

The Bellevue AJ7 Floor Lamp was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929. It proved to be very prescient, representing as it did a breakthrough in the new aesthetic of functionalism. This was when design was stripped back to the point where form followed function, a reverse of the prevailing trend. At any other moment in history it may have failed but its lack of adornment and simple functional beauty chimed with the times as 1929 was also the year of the Wall Street crash. It was a period where the superfluous was excised and creativity tilted towards the minimal through necessity. The Bellevue series of lamps truly were seminal and despite being one of his early works bore the unmistakable characteristics for which Arne Jacobsen’s designs are still revered to this day.
