Berners Street 3 Seat Sofa

The Bridgewater by Howard and son is probably the most imitated sofa in England becoming in the process a timeless classic. The Berners Street is Rume’s doffed cap to this deceptively simple sofa. Named after the street where the original Howard and son workshops were situated and based upon an original Bridgewater chair frame we have made what we believe is the quintessential tee front sofa. Very little has been changed from the original design, as perfection is difficult to improve upon but we have added modern cushion interiors, oiled oak legs and wide nickel plated castors. A version with a four sided taper front leg is also available. The Berners Street is hand pleated and slip stitched and there is no piping or over padding, in fact no unnecessary detail at all, it is, from its hardwood frame to its unfussy upholstery a respectful yet thoroughly modern echo of Edwardian restraint.
