Calavera Huichol - Monochrome Skulls

What is death but a dream? The Huichol community of the Free State of Jalisco, Mexico, understands this perfectly and have imbued moulded skulls with the pattern of their dreams in an effort to mitigate death’s solemnity. Using Campeche beeswax and colorful hand placed plastic beads, the Huichol community patiently employ the symbols and images from their pre-Columbian culture. These old skills demonstrate the Huichol's exceptional ability to turn simple objects into refined pieces full of magic, pattern and color. Due to the handmade nature of these skulls each design is slightly different so if you wish to avoid a surprise please request an image to confirm appearance.
