The La Lune is that strangest of things, a happy accident. Designed for a particular client about ten years ago it had to meet a rather unusual specification, to be a single piece, as tall as possible yet fit up a tight spiral staircase. To accomplish this we gave the back of the sofa a high arc which is echoed in the front rail and gave the arms a low curved profile. We designed a special reverse plinth for the long legs to be attached to allowing them to look integral but to actually be removable and with them off we were able to literally screw it up the staircase. Usually when a mechanical criteria is forced upon a design it dictates the outcome, which is not often favourable, in this case something rather lovely happened we ended up with an unusual and really beautiful sofa. We have never had to push one up a spiral staircase again, this really is a case of form following function following form.
